We have spent almost two weeks learning about energy resources in class. Using your
background knowledge of these resources please write a comment answering the following question.
Imagine you live in an area that has access to all nine types of energy studied in class. If you were in charge of choosing the energy resource used by a city in the area, which energy resource would you select? Please explain why. In your explanation of why, include two specific pieces of evidence to support your selection and one specific piece of evidence that is an admission of a negative for this type of energy.
If I lived in a city that had all of the nine energy resources available I would chose hydropower. I would chose hydropower because, I it has no carbon footprint which is good for my area and for the environment. Another reason why I would chose this energy resource is because it would not take up a lot of space because we already have a river for the dame in our city. But there is some thing bad about this resort it is that it would cost the area I live in a lot of money.
ReplyDeleteIf I lived in a city that could have any of the energy resources I would choose Wind turbines. The wind turbines make energy for as long as the wind is blowing. They are very cheap and if you put them by a highway all of the rushing cars would create a strong wing and you could also get energy that way. They are very big and they can’t be too close to each other or else they would hit each other. The space under it can be used but it would be hard to use for the fight thing. You could also put a farm underneath the wind turbines.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a city and could chose an energy resource I would chose hydro power. I would chose this energy because it is a renewable. This energy also is very clean against the environment. This is true because hydropower is created by water spinning a turbine in a dam. Hydropower may be expensive, but in JackTopia, we have enough money to fund it and build the concrete dam.

I would choose Geothermal energy because it is very clean and it would help the environment and won't pollute the air. Also Because it is very easy to get you just drill a hole in the ground and out the power plant over it. But one disadvantage is that it is incredibly expensive to make. And that is why i would choose geothermal energy if I had the choice.
ReplyDeleteIf I could pick one energy resource it would be wind. Because its a renewable resource. It also causes no pollution to the earth. It doesn't take up a lot of space but its expensive. It can also power a lot of homes.
ReplyDeleteThe energy resource I would want for my city would be solar. I would use solar because it has close to zero Carbon Footprint. This means that it is a very green and good for the environment. Another reason it would be god would be because it will never run out. The only raw material in solar energy is the sun. The sun is a big star that may explode in millions of years, but for now it is still whole. Solar may be very green, but it has downsides as well. One downside is that they cost over $7,000 to put in solar panels. For all of these reasons, advantages and disadvantages, it is why I would most prefer solar energy in my city.
ReplyDeleteDear Mrs. Blake,
ReplyDeleteI would choose solar energy because even though we would have to pay a lot of money to install the panels, we would still get a lot of power to supply the city. We would also be able to store the power in devices, so we don't have to go to bed before night time. The solar energy will always last as long as the sun is still shining, and hasn't burst into flames.
Sincerely,
Audrey G.

If I was in charge of a choosing the energy resource for a city, I would choose biomass. I would choose this because first of all, biomass is renewable, so it can be used forever. Biomass is made out of plants such as corn, sugar cane, and sugar beets. Biomass is less expensive than gas, so more people could afford it. The plants used to make biomass are usually grown on farms. One of the disadvantages of biomass are the since it is made out of plants, it could potentially raise the price for crops. The demand for crops would raise a lot when using biomass.
ReplyDeleteThe energy resource I would use is Biomass because it is reusable/ renewable and it never runs out because of the energies raw materials are trash and plants. All though it sounds like a great resource there are some downsides to it Biomass can have water sources can be very low in the area where the company of Biomass is and it can also reduce food resources. That is why I would chose Biomass.
ReplyDeleteI think that biomass would be the best energy resource to use in a city for a couple of reasons. First, biomass has the potential for transportation. So say you run out of fuel you could possibly use it for fuel to run your car or motorcycle. Second of all, All you have to do is just plant crops. You could make your own garden and fuel your house. Of course there are disadvantages to everything. There could be water and/or crop shortages and then the demand will be a lot higher.
ReplyDeleteI would choose Solar, because you won’t run out of it! Another reason that I would pick Solar is that it does not cause pollution! The only downside is that it’s really expensive and sometimes requires a large amount of space.
ReplyDeleteIf I was able to choose which type of energy source to use in the city that I lived in I would choose Geothermal. The reasons why I would choose Geothermal is because it is not harmful to the environment. The water from where we take the energy from is hot when we take it out because the magma or lava heats the water and we put it through a machine to cool the water. The heated or cooled water helps heat or cool buildings. One negative thing about Geothermal energy is that it can be dangerous drilling to holes to get the water because it is very deep in the ground.
ReplyDeleteDear Mrs. Blake,
ReplyDeleteIf I were choose an energy resource, I would choose biofuel. I would choose biofuel because it is renewable. It is renewable because it is made by plants and can be made garbage. It can also be produced locally with helps provide jobs and help leaves a small carbon. Biofuel is a big step to help recycling. Biofuels raw materials are plants and garbage so it is very cheap to produce and helps the environment. But with the water it takes to produce the crops, it could possible lead to water shortages in the area. We also might be using to much valuable cropland, for energy crops. As you can see biofuel is a good energy resource for many cities.
Sincerely,
Lauren N.
The area that I loved and to will choose for this blog is wind. I love wind because of how it pulls in the storm’s that we need. The specific evidence that I have is the windmills that can be expensive to buy. Also it takes up a lot of space for the windmills. The one evidence that I do not like about the wind is it can be cold air and also warm air.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to choose an energy resource, I would choose biomass. The reason I would choose biomass is because it is 100% completely safe for our earth. It does not pollute like other fossil fuels. My other reason why I would choose biomass is because it is made and used from garage and food! It does not cost any more to make than any other energy resource. Farmers can grow the corn that is used to make biomass and use all of the garbage that they go through to help make it. Biomass can be used everywhere and its renewable which means it will never run out. We will never run out of the materials that makes it either. The down part is that that if we run out of all of the crops that is used to make it, then we would have a food shortage. Then we will not be able to make it. Biomass is a great energy resource to use everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI would pick coal. It is shiny and helps get energy. It helps light up things. It helps other things that use energy. It is inexpensive. Coal is hard to find because it is underground.
ReplyDeleteI think that Natural gas is the best energy source because it is the thing that helps you heat up your house and power most of the things in there. Natural gas helps you heat your house when its cold or heat up food on the stove when your hungry. Natural gas can also very dangerous because it is flammable so if you pour gas on it then it will cause an explosion, but if you use it the right way then you will be safe and it will help you get through your daily life.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose any resource I would choose coal. Without coal we would have no heat and no electricity. A lot of people need heat to be warm and electricity to see at night. Coal is very important to the world and a lot of people need it to stay warm or even not trip over things while its dark. It does take a long time to make but in the end everyone needs it!
ReplyDeleteIf I was in charge of choosing the energy resource the city would be using, I would choose wind energy. I would choose wind energy because one large wind turbine can power over 400 houses, if we have a large empty area we can have a lot of turbines to power he city. Also wind energy can run at night so we can always be getting power 24/7 if the wind is blowing. We would need a lot of room because the wind turbines take up a lot of room and you can’t put them to close together.
ReplyDeleteIf I were in charge of Blakeville the energy resource I would use is, wind because it fairly cheap, and the carbon footprint is super small, but we don’t have a lot of wind.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the energy source that should be used in a city should be hydropower, because of a few reasons. Hydropower electricity is generated by water pushing turbines inside of dams, and the energy created can be used for electricity. Because water will constantly keep moving in the water cycle, it is renewable. This means that it won’t run out, which is a positive because the resource can be used for a long time. Also, hydropower releases a very small carbon footprint. The bigger the carbon footprint is, the more it pollutes the earth, so having a small carbon footprint, helps in my decision for hydropower. Although there are many upsides to hydropower, there is some downsides too. Building dams are expensive, and they take up a lot of room. But in the end the money made by the long lasting hydropower will repay for the dam, and go on to make a large profit.
ReplyDeleteI think hydro power is the best type of energy source to use. It is used by 16% of the United States. Which is a lot of people for one energy source. It is very healthy for the earth because it doesn't leave any carbon footprint. It is renewable because water is a source in this type of energy that is continuous. Since it is renewable this source doesn't just last for a certain amount of time it lasts for as long as you want it to. With all advantages there are some disadvantages. It is expensive. It costs 1 to 4 million dollars to install the dam needed for the energy source. It will pay itself off though. once you spend all the money needed then you will end up saving a lot of money later in life. Also, it takes up a lot of space but that's okay because it isn't harmful to the earth. I think that hydro power is the best energy source to use.
ReplyDeleteIf were to choose a Energy Resource for blakeville it would be Biofuel/Biomass. I would choose this resource because it is renewable and Green. Biomass it is made out of plants and pieces of garbage. It can clean the city if it had lots of trash in it. Biomass does use plants so farmers will have to make extra and use more water to use. Biomass can be used for fuel which is cleaner for the earth. Clearly biomass is the true energy source.
ReplyDeleteI would choose solar energy because the solar panels may cost a lot of money but it wont run out any time soon. Solar energy stores power. So at night when the sum cant power the panels the energy saved will power your TV or any electronics you have.
ReplyDeleteI my opinion Biomass would be the best resource to use for two reasons.First it doesn't pollute. Pollution is one of the leading causes of global warming and if we use gasoline it will make it worse but if we use clean fuels such as Biomass it will be good for our planet. Second, Biofuel is cheap. Unlike coal Biomass is 50 cents per gallon so we could use a lot of it.
ReplyDeleteIf I could choose any energy resource it would be wind. One, because it is renewable and it is mostly windy all the time so the turbines will never stop turning. It also it very clean for the environment so it has a small carbon footprint. A down side of winds is it takes up a lot space so you can’t have many turbines.
ReplyDeleteThe energy source that I would choose is solar energy because it comes from the sun which is shining all day. Another reason I would choose solar is because when you dont use the energy at day time it gets stored so you can use it at night.
ReplyDeleteIf I lived were able to choose an energy resource for my city it would be hydro power. I would choose hydro power because it is a very efficient way to get energy that doesn't pollute the air. Also with hydropower it is not something that is seasonal because all that you need is a river or stream that has running water. One last reason why i would choose hydropower is because it does not affect any body because it doesn't pollute the air or drinking water and doesn't take up space that people need for land. One downfall is that fish could get caught in the turbines but we could prevent that by putting nets around it.
